Solidification models of PCM materials in various geometrical systems
The need of using energy rationally is very important due to the heat energy storage in heat accumulators.
At present the system in which energy accumulation and release results from phase changes are greatly significant. This is related to the use of the process of melting and solidification of chemical compounds, the so called phase change materials (PCM).
Solidification models of cylindrical and spherical volume bodies were analysed by, among others, Baehr and Stephan. The geometrical systems they researched, discussed cases when a solidifying PCM was inside and outside the spherical or cylindrical boundary. In this study presents various types of geometry/shapes containing a PCM marked dark gray, whereas a heat carrier is marked light gray.
